Each source system has its own upgrade route and its own traps. Pick yours.

Dynamics GPBusiness Central Support ends December 31, 2029. Microsoft’s own migration tool covers setup, master data, open transactions and history. Read the Dynamics GP guide Dynamics NAVBusiness Central Business Central is NAV’s direct successor. The work is in converting C/AL customisations to AL extensions.     We inventory your companies, modules, customisations, integrations, reports and data volumes, and agree what “done” means.

    Plan

    You get a written scope, a dated plan and a price, with the risks named. Nothing is hidden in an assumptions appendix.

  3. 03

    Migrate

    Configuration, data migration rehearsals, rebuilt customisations and integrations, then user testing on your own data.

  4. 04

    Run

    Planned cutover, first month-end close alongside your team, and a handover your people can maintain.

What actually drives the cost

Migration budgets are set by scope, not by the name of your old system. The four questions that move the number most:

  • How many companies, currencies and modules are in scope?
  • How much custom code and how many integrations do you carry?
  • How much history must be live in the new system on day one?
  • How much of the testing and data clean-up can your team own?

Short answers

When does Microsoft Dynamics GP support end?

Microsoft ends Dynamics GP product enhancements, tax updates and technical support on December 31, 2029. Security updates, if needed, continue until April 30, 2031. The last day for new customers to license GP subscriptions was April 1, 2026. Source: Microsoft Learn — Dynamics GP.

Can Dynamics NAV be upgraded straight to Business Central online?

Usually not in one step. Microsoft documents NAV upgrades as a path through intermediate Business Central releases, and C/AL customisations must be converted to AL extensions along the way. Once the solution is on a supported Business Central version, it can move to Business Central online. Source: Microsoft Learn — Business Central upgrade paths.

Do we have to bring all of our historical data across?

No. Most companies bring master data, open balances and open transactions, plus a limited window of history, and keep the old system or an archive read-only for audit.
